Lisa Rumbewa Papua Women’s Weightlifting Legend

JAYAPURA, PAPUA – Lisa Rumbewas was born on September 10, 1980 in Jayapura and her full name is Raema Lisa Rumbewas, Lisa athlete talent has been seen since childhood and a gift in the form of talent in Lisa sport from both parents, her father Levi Rumbewas was once Indonesia best bodybuilder and her mother named Ida Korwa is also a lifter.

Lisa began practicing weightlifting since she was 13 years old, because growing up in a family of athletes Lisa was trained directly by her own father, Lisa talent in weightlifting was immediately seen and a few years later in 1996, Lisa won a silver medal at the XVI National Sports Week in Jakarta and four years later, Lisa ventured to participate in the biggest international tournament, the 2000 Sydney Olympics, because of her courage Lisa was not in vain won a silver medal in the 48 kg class with a total force of 185 kg (snatch 80 kg and clean & jerk 105 kg), with that achievement Lisa set a record as the first Indonesian athlete to win a medal at the Olympics.

In 2004 Lisa returned to try out her abilities, Lisa participated in the Athens Olympics and the results were not much different, she won a silver medal in the 53 kg Group A class with a total force of 210 kg (snatch 95 kg and clean & jerk 115 kg), with the achievement of two silver in the previous two Olympic events did not make Lisa satisfied, in 2008 in the Beijing Olympics Lisa again plunged in the 53 kg class and Lisa ability was still the same as eight years earlier, her performance still made Indonesia proud and Lisa won a bronze medal in the 53 kg class with a total force of 206 kg (snatch 90 kg and clean & jerk 116 kg).

Lisa Rumbewas is Indonesia most successful weightlifter, Lisa is the only Indonesian athlete to consistently win medals at three Olympics and Lisa is also the first Indonesian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the World Championships. In 2012 Lisa retired from the world of weightlifting and after retiring, Lisa continued her career as a weightlifting coach in Papua and Lisa is also active as a sports ambassador in Papua.

Lisa Rumbewas achievements are numerous, including three consecutive Olympic medals. The following is a track record of Lisa Rumbewas achievements as a weightlifter:

  • Silver Medal, 48 kg class Sea Games XVI 1997 in Jakarta
  • Silver Medal, 53 kg class 2005 Women’s Weightlifting Asian Championships in Doha, Qatar.
  • Bronze Medal, 53 kg class 2007 Women’s Weightlifting Asian Championships in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

4. SEA Games

  • Silver Medal, 48 kg class Sea Games XVI 1997 in Jakarta.
  • Silver Medal, 48 kg class Sea Games XVII 1999 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
