Central Papua Adds Bronze Medal in Jujitsu Sports PON XXI

Central Papua – Athletes from Central Papua won a bronze medal in the Jujitsu sport at the XXI Aceh-Sumut National Sports Week (PON) which took place at the Martial Arts Arena, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Thursday (9/19/2024).

The bronze medal was obtained by a Central Papua athlete named Wahyu Resa Ardiansyah, 69 kg adult male class jujitsu sport.

Central Papua Jujitsu Coach, Iptu Samuel Borang said, there were three Central Papua jujitsu athletes who competed in PON XXI. One athlete won a medal, while the other two athletes only reached the preliminary round.

“The competition is very tough with opponents who on average have competed at the Asian level,” said Samuel.

Despite only winning a bronze medal, Samuel appreciated the spirit of the Central Papua Jujitsu team who had performed optimally.

“The obstacle of the jujitsu team so far is the lack of sparring hours out. To develop technical skills must be tested,” he said.

He also thanked the people of Central Papua for supporting the Jujitsu Team at PON Aceh-North Sumatra 2024.

“Hopefully in the future we can improve the ability of Central Papua jujitsu athletes,” he concluded.
