South Papua Foreigner Monitoring Team Discusses Various Issues in Meeting

MERAUKE – The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Papua held a Meeting of the Foreigner Monitoring Team at the South Papua Province Level at Swiss Belhotel Merauke.

Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Papua, Anthonius Mathius Ayorbaba, said that the presence and activities of foreigners entering and exiting in the territory of Indonesia, including in South Papua Province, in addition to having a positive impact, also has potential that can be viewed from various aspects, both ideological aspects, political aspects, economic, socio-cultural and security defense aspects.

The establishment of a foreigner monitoring team at the South Papua Province level is expected that this team can take various preventive steps, accommodate and follow up on various foreigner monitoring issues that occur in South Papua as well as at the district level.

“Hopefully a synergistic relationship will be created between related personnel in carrying out their respective functions and duties so that the supervision and presence of foreigners runs according to their respective roles, non-intervention and can solve various problems of foreigners professionally based on applicable laws and regulations,” said the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Papua, Anthonius Mathius Ayorbaba on the occasion.

Joint operations that have been carried out and the identification of several problems that become issues are discussed in the supervision team. Among other things, there is a national strategic food estate project at PT Global Abadi Papua that employs experts. There is still illegal suppression in the RI-PNG border area, PLBN Yatetkun which has not been operational after being built and sharing the problems of the foreigner surveillance team at the district level carried out by the Class II TPI Merauke Immigration Office in various districts which also need to be conveyed in the form of a more concrete data presentation.

Thus, all members of the foreigner supervision team can know so that foreigner supervision at the South Papua provincial level can have a common goal in order to maintain security and order stability and maintain state sovereignty in South Papua.

Assistant 1 Setda of South Papua Province, Drs. Agustinus Joko Guritno on the occasion expressed his gratitude for the presence of OPD and related stakeholders in the meeting of the foreigner formation team considering the various activities of foreigners in the jurisdiction of Indonesia need the attention of all parties, especially South Papua has a direct border with PNG and Australia.

“Therefore, coordination between relevant agencies in order to equalize perceptions in terms of supervision and activities of foreigners in the region in accordance with their respective fields and duties is absolutely necessary,” said Guritno.

The local government, continued Guritno, is ready to support and welcome this activity as a form of realizing good cooperation between related agencies in immigration control of foreigners in South Papua.
