South Papua Cyber Task Force monitors negative content during elections

Jayapura – The Cyber Subsatgas of Operation Mantap Praja Cartenz II South Papua Region continues to monitor various social media platforms and websites that have the potential to become targets for the spread of negative content that can be disruptive during the 2024 regional head election (Pilkada) stages.

Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Mantap Praja Cartenz South Papua Region Kompol Nurjanah in a press release received by ANTARA in Jayapura, Monday, said cyber patrols are part of the Papua Police’s efforts to create a conducive situation during the elections.

“We continue to monitor the spread of hoax information, hate speech and content that leads to the issue of Ethnicity, Religion, Race and Intergroup (SARA) in the digital space to prevent crimes on social media specifically during the election stage,” she said.

According to Nurjanah, with the increasing use of social media as the main platform for information, the cyber patrol conducted by the cyber sub task force is a complete preventive measure to prevent the spread of information that can disrupt the democratic process.

“We have committed to the 2024 elections running safely and peacefully so this cyber patrol is to ensure that the democratic party in the South Papua region runs smoothly,” he said.

He explained that his party appealed to all local people to be wise in using social media and not to participate in disseminating information that comes from unclear sources.

“We will take firm steps against anyone proven to spread hoaxes, hate speech and SARA information,” he said again.

He added that the support of all parties is expected to be able to maintain a conducive situation both in cyberspace and in the real world.

“Good collaboration between the security forces and the community will be the key to realizing honest, fair and dignified elections in the Land of Papua,” he said.
