SOUTH PAPUA – Indonesia now has three new provinces in Papua which were inaugurated on June 30, 2022. Now Indonesia officially has 37 provinces spread throughout the region. These three new provinces are South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains.
With this new province, friends must recognize more so that they can understand any differences in natural or cultural conditions. This difference must be understood in order to create an attitude of tolerance in every region in Indonesia.

Getting to know South Papua Province
South Papua is a New Autonomous Region Province (DOB) in the Papua region. South Papua Province has a capital city in Merauke Regency. This new province has an area bordering another country, namely Papua New Guinea to the east.
While to the north, this province is bordered by Nduga Regency, Yahukimo, and Bintang Mountains Regency. Then on the west it is bordered by Mimika Regency and the Aru Sea. On the south side it is bordered by the Arafura Sea.
Compared to the other two new provinces, South Papua Province has the fewest number of regencies. This province is only filled with four districts, namely Merauke, Mappi, Asmat and Boven Digoel.
Although there are only four regencies, this province has a fairly large area of 131,493 square kilometers. After recognizing the boundaries of the region, we will now understand the diversity of tribes and cultures that exist in South Papua Province.
Traditional House of South Papua Province
For traditional houses, there is something unique about the existence of a bachelor house called gotad. The house will be lived in by men from adolescence until finally getting married and leaving.
Around the gotad house there will be several family houses, also known as oram aha or women’s houses. The size of this house is also smaller and will be lived in by women. That was some information that needs to be known to get to know the new province, namely South Papua Province.
