The General Election Commission of West Papua Province held a plenary meeting on Monday, 23rd September 2024 with the agenda of determining the ballot numbers of participants in the simultaneous regional head elections. The stages of registration of candidate pairs have been carried out until finally inviting all candidate pairs who meet the requirements to draw what’s ballot numbers they will get. There are five candidate pairs who will take part in the democratic party in November. As one of the newest provinces in the Republic of Indonesia, all stakeholders including the Regional Government of West Papua Province and the General Election Commission are mobilizing all their energy to be able to hold general elections in accordance with applicable provisions.
The determination of the ballot numbers of candidate pairs in the regional head elections in South West Papua Province also invites them to start planning campaign programs and also implementing them. Before campaigning, candidate pairs are invited to attend a technical meeting regarding what is and is not allowed to be done during the campaign. Starting from the use of campaign equipment to the start date until the end of the campaign period. All of this is done so that there are no violations during the campaign process until the general election is held later.
The order of candidate pairs participating in the regional head elections in South West Papua Province in 2024, namely, number one is the candidate pair for Governor Abdul Faris Umlati and Candidate for Deputy Governor Petrus Kasihiuw. Number two is the candidate pair for Governor Gabriel Assem and Candidate for Deputy Governor Lukman Wugaje. Number three is the candidate pair for Governor Elisa Kambu and Candidate for Deputy Governor Ahmad Nausrau. Number four is the candidate pair for Governor Yoppie Onesimus Wayangkau and Candidate for Deputy Governor Ibrahim Wugaje. Number five is the candidate pair for Governor Bernard Sagrim and Candidate for Deputy Governor Sirajudin Bauw.
The process of drawing the candidate numbers for the candidate pairs for governor and deputy governor of South West Papua Province was witnessed by many parties ranging from the local government, the community, and also supporters of each candidate pair. The plenary meeting held by the General Election Commission of South West Papua Province was also carried out openly and can even be accessed via streaming services on the social media YouTube.
The expectation of the General Election Commission of South West Papua Province as the organizing committee for the regional head election is that the candidate pairs can invite the community to be active and participate in the democratic process. During the campaign period, the community is expected to be embraced and taught how to do healthy politics and provide educational values. So that whoever is elected later, it is the best choice from the candidate pairs who are indeed the best people in South West Papua Province who are ready to lead towards prosperity.
