Kompolnas encourages neutrality of security forces in Papua elections

PAPUA – The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) emphasizes the importance of the neutrality of the security forces during the implementation of the 2024 simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in Papua.

This was conveyed by Kompolnas Commissioner Poengky Indarty in his statement on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. “So we got a presentation from the Papua Police regarding neutrality which was then outlined in a pocket book for all ranks of the local police,” said Indarty.

Poengky also appreciated the Papua Police’s steps in formulating the principle of neutrality in the form of a pocket book. “We hope that with this pocket book, police neutrality can continue to be upheld,” he said.

Furthermore, he also reminded the Police to remain open to public reports regarding violations that occur.

“We have said that if a problem is found in the field, if it is related to the code of ethics, it must be processed ethically and if it leads to crime, it must be resolved in the same realm,” said Poengky.

As is known, the campaign period for the 2024 Pilkada itself has started since September 25 and will end on November 23, 2024.

After that, there will be a quiet period from November 24 to 26, before voting day on November 27, 2024. Vote counting and recapitulation of results will take place until December 16, 2024.
