Diskominfo Papua tells residents to be aware of AI abuse

JAYAPURA – The Communication and Informatics Office (Kominfo) of Papua urges residents of Cenderawasih Earth to be aware of the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence on digital platforms, which aims to spread hoaxes ahead of the 2024 elections and other online crimes.

According to the Head of the Papua Communication and Information Agency, Jeri A. Yudioanto, AI is actually designed to help and facilitate the complex tasks of manufacturing, banking and government quickly and efficiently.

However, today, the public as users of digital platforms are often treated to visual AI shows that are inciting and have the potential to cause conflict and division in this political year.

Therefore, he urges citizens to confirm a number of visual AI impressions or the like that are inciting or create shades of discord. Because artificial intelligence has recently been used to spread hoaxes (fake news).

“Of course, AI is widely used to support the performance of both business and government. But what must be realized is that any confirmation on the platform is still needed. We as platform users must be wise in using it,” explained Jeri in Jayapura City.

Generally, still according to Jeri Yudianto, AI technology that is often misused by certain parties to create hoaxes is deep fake. Where the Deepfake program is a product of AI technology which is generally in the form of images, audio, or video made as if real.

The visual impressions are made as if the character in the video is delivering a call or invitation to do a certain thing. “So it is very important for the public to understand its characteristics so as not to be deceived,” said Jeri.

Previously, visual impressions in the form of AI by certain figures were circulating which had the potential to divide unity ahead of the November 27, 2024 Pilkada. Visual impressions are circulating on social media platforms whatsapp residents of Jayapura and surrounding areas.
