Candidate Pairs for Regional Head Elections in South Papua Declared Physically and Mentally Healthy

MERAUKE, SOUTH PAPUA – All 19 pairs of candidates for the 2024 Regional Head Election in South Papua Province were declared physically and mentally healthy, this was decided after they took part in the health examination stage at the Merauke Regional General Hospital.

Four prospective candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent of Merauke, namely:

  1. Kristian David Tarigan Gebze and Kusmanto,
  2. Hendrikus Mahuse and Haji Riduwan,
  3. Yoseph Bladid Gede and Fauzan Nihayah,
  4. Martinus Guntur Ohoiwutun and Prayogo.

The five candidates for the Regent and Deputy Regent of Mappi are:

  1. Emanuel BG Bahagia and Jaya Ibnu Su’ud,
  2. Kristosimus Yohanes Agawemu and Sanusi,
  3. Stefanus Kaisma and Adnan Satriyono,
  4. Benedictus Amoiye and Benedictus Tori Paliling,
  5. Berekmas Reynoldus Bapaimu and Muhammad Agus Salim.

Then, the four candidates for the Regent and Deputy Regent of Boven Digoel are:

  1. Petrus Ricolombus Omba and Marlinus,
  2. Yakob Weremba and Suharto,
  3. Athanasius Koknak and H Basri Muhammadiyah,
  4. Hengky Yaluwo and Melkior Okaibob.

The two candidates for the Regent and Deputy Regent of Asmat are:

  1. Thomas Eppe Safanpo and Yoel Manggaprou,
  2. Bonifasius Jakfu and Abdul Ganing.

Helda Ambai, Commissioner of the South Papua General Election Commission, Technical Division, said that the medical examination is an important part of the Regional Head Election stage and is one of the administrative requirements that must be met by each individual and his or her partner who is contesting.

All prospective candidate pairs must be physically and mentally healthy to be determined as Candidates for Regional Head and Deputy Regional Head, “For 19 prospective candidate pairs, all of them are declared healthy both physically and mentally, as a result of the examination of the Merauke Regional General Hospital and then the General Election Commission submits the results of the health examination to the LO of the candidate pair along with the notification of the results of the candidate administration research,” said Helda Ambai.

Helda Ambai added, in the improvement period which lasts three days, prospective candidate pairs are expected to be well utilized, after which the General Election Commission will determine candidates on September 22, 2024 and will draw candidate serial numbers on September 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Head of Service of the Merauke Regional General Hospital, Dr. Maryeke Kulang said, all prospective candidates for Regional Head and his deputy had undergone a thorough medical examination according to the schedule given, “Before being submitted to the General Election Commission, a plenary of the health team was first conducted and the results were that 19 candidate pairs were physically and mentally capable and had no indication of drug use, we express our appreciation to the South Papua General Election Commission and 4 district General Election Commissions that have entrusted the Merauke Regional General Hospital to be the center for medical examinations of prospective candidate pairs who will participate in this year’s simultaneous Pilkada contestation,” said Mareyke Kulang.
