Acting Regent of Yapen Islands Suzana Wanggai Expects Papuan Women’s Capacity to Continue to be Improved

YAPEN, PAPUA – The Acting Regent of Yapen Islands, Suzana D Wanggai, S.Pd, MSoc, Sc, officially opened the Socialization of Increasing women’s participation in the political, legal, social and economic fields of Provincial authority.

In the report, the Head of the Papua Province Empowerment Division said that the purpose of this activity was to raise awareness of the implementation of development about the importance of increasing equality between women and men in:

  1. Political development,
  2. Economic development,
  3. Social,
  4. Culture,
  5. Education,
  6. Defense in the Yapen Islands Regency.

In addition, it can also increase the awareness and commitment of the women’s community to be aware of their human rights, and to participate in development by preparing themselves as partners of men, introducing and preparing the concept of developing women’s empowerment service provider institutions in the regions as a strategy to accelerate gender equality, and improve the quality of family life throughout Papua, in this activity it is hoped that it can provide an understanding to participants to understand the equality of men and women in the political, legal, social, economic and defense fields, besides that it is hoped that participants will be able to understand the importance of commitment in women’s empowerment service provider institutions in the regions, as a forum for accelerating the development of women’s empowerment in Papua.

In her remarks, Suzana D Wanggai expressed her welcome to the head of women’s empowerment and child protection of Papua Province, that this is a form of attention and good coordination between the Province and Regency, related to this activity, which is closely related to gender equality where people still think traditionally because in Papua it is still patrilineal which assumes that women cannot be more than men. Suzana D Wanggai said that currently women must be able to renew themselves in the way of thinking, acting, and behaving in all fields on an ongoing basis with the aim of achieving equality and equality in rights and obligations and must get the opportunity to grow and develop optimally both physically, mentally, and socially.

Through this activity Suzana D Wanggai hopes that there will be harmonization and synchronization of programs, in order to solve the problems of women and children in the Yapen Islands Regency, so that Papuan women are more qualified:

  4. Can prepare a quality generation to build the land of Papua together with men as partners.
