Numbay Creative Festival 2023 (NCF) Improving Creative Economy and Prosperity in Jayapura City

JAYAPURA –  The third annual Numbay Creative Festival (NCF) 2023, a four-day arts and culture event in Jayapura, Papua, was held at the Papua Trade Center (PTC) Entrop Jayapura from September 21-24, 2023, with the inspiring theme “Connecting Creativities”, NCF 2023 provided an extraordinary experience to its visitors.

NCF 2023 presents a variety of activities that bring together and showcase the work of art from creative communities throughout Jayapura, ranging from music, film, photography, to culinary, all will be presented in this festival, besides that there are also art performances, fashion shows by local designers, as well as performances from 30 Nusantara Dance and Music folk song groups.

This event is a platform for superior products and creative services with exhibitions from 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy, many visitors participate in Creative Talk which is a place to discuss and share inspiration, not only that, NCF also holds various competitions, such as the Papuan Creation Dance Competition, Modern Dance, and E-Sport, in an atmosphere rich in culture and creativity, Numbay Creative Festival 2023 is an event that supports the local creative economy in Papua.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno emphasized the importance of Numbay Creative Festival 2023 as a landmark event that marks the high spirit of reviving the Creative Economy (Ekraf) sector in Jayapura City, Papua.

“I believe that through this event, we can experience the extraordinary potential and attractiveness of the Creative Economy. This is a golden opportunity to open creative job opportunities,” Sandiaga Uno said.

Sandiaga continued that the festival is expected to be a locomotive in driving economic growth and community welfare in Jayapura City.

Muhamad Amin Abdullah, Director of Music, Film and Animation at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, expressed his admiration for the spirit of progress and development of the Papuan youth community who are members of the Numbay Kreatif Forum, this achievement is concrete evidence of the spirit of collaboration between Papuan creative youth with local government and local stakeholders.

“The success of the Numbay Creative Festival, which is included in the top 10 Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) in 2023, is a proud achievement for creative youth in Papua. Close collaboration with the local government and local stakeholders has yielded positive results,” Abdullah said.

Abdullah emphasized that this kind of collaboration is a clear example of how festivals that are creative-based, supported by local wisdom, and involve the younger generation, can be a driving force for the development of human resources and the creative industry ecosystem in Jayapura. This supports participation in global competition, with a creative and youth-centric concept, Numbay Creative Festival 2023 is expected to not only increase the popularity of Jayapura as an attractive destination, but also strengthen the local creative industry base and contribute significantly to economic growth in the Jayapura region of Papua.
