Focus Group Discussion on Strengthening Development in All Economic Sectors with the Central Bureau of Statistics Organized by the Central Papua Provincial Government

NABIRE, CENTRAL PAPUA – The Central Papua Provincial Government together with the Central Bureau of Statistics of Papua Province held a Focus Group Discussion on the Preparation of Gross Regional Domestic Product Chain Volume Measure Method and Development of Sectoral Statistics for Central Papua Province at the Central Papua Governor’s office hall, on Wednesday (11/09/2024).

This Focus Group Discussion was held in order to strengthen the foundation of economic development in Central Papua and in particular through improving the quality of data that is more accurate and useful for policy formulation, this was revealed by the Acting Regional Secretary of Central Papua Province Anwar Harun Damanik, S.STP., M.M, through the remarks of the Acting Governor of Central Papua, “Gross Regional Domestic Product is one of the most important economic indicators in assessing the economy of a region. This indicator is not only a reference for local governments in formulating development policies, but also a guide for the private sector in determining the direction of investment and other economic activities,” said Anwar Harun Damanik, S.STP.

According to Anwar Harun Damanik, the preparation of Gross Regional Domestic Product using the Chain Volume Measure method is one of the innovations that must be understood and applied properly, because this method allows us to measure the rate of economic growth accurately, “The Chain Volume Measure method is used in the preparation of Gross Regional Domestic Product and this is an innovation that we need to understand well, because this method really allows us to measure economic development and growth more accurately by taking into account changes in volume and prices over time,” said Anwar Harun.

Anwar Harun explained, the application of the Chain Volume Measure method must require coordination between the local government, the Central Bureau of Statistics and all related agencies, in order to obtain maximum and measurable results regarding economic performance in Central Papua, “The application of the Chain Volume Measure method certainly requires a deep technical understanding and good coordination between the local government, the Central Bureau of Statistics, and related agencies,” said Anwar Harun.

In addition, Anwar also said the importance of fostering sectoral statistics in the development of various economic sectors through coordination between:

  1. Central Bureau of Statistics,
  2. Sectoral offices,
  3. Economic actors in Central Papua Province.

“Sectoral statistics have an important role in providing a more detailed and comprehensive picture of the development of each economic sector in our region and without accurate and sectoral statistical data it will be difficult for us to design appropriate and targeted policies,” Anwar said.

Present at the Focus Group Discussion were the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics of Papua Province Adriana Helena Carolina, high-ranking officials of Central Papua Province, the Head of Regional Owned Enterprises of Central Papua Province and a number of Private Company Leaders.
