Three Accelerated Development Plans for Papua

Accelerating development in Papua is not just talk. However, this is a topic of discussion that always appears in cabinet meetings in the Indonesian government and also during various visits by the President, Vice President and Ministers to Papua. To realize accelerated development in Papua, all parties collaborate according to their respective portions with the same goal. Three plans were formulated that needed to be realized to accelerate development in Papua. Starting from the first plan regarding health, the second plan regarding education, and the third plan regarding the economy. These three plans are the foundation of development in Papua. So that each plan has a budget that is also based on development strategies in accordance with what is needed for Papua.

The first plan is a plan in the health sector. Development in the health sector will focus on how the regional government of Papua Province is able to provide superior health facilities with professional services. This means that to carry out this first plan, it starts with building health facilities, especially hospitals with various equipment. After that, health support facilities ranging from medical personnel and adequate medical equipment are also needed. Apart from hospitals, the construction of community health centers in remote areas is also needed. This includes personnel and medical equipment which are also needed in public health centers. Apart from that, to facilitate access from community health centers to hospitals if a referral is needed at any time, the provision of ambulances is also an important part of the first development plan in the health sector. Communities throughout Papua will also receive health facilities that increase life expectancy and avoid various diseases.

The second plan relates to the education sector. The development of schools, both formal schools at various levels, needs to be considered. Papua, which is included as a province in the Republic of Indonesia, certainly needs to follow the required mandatory education standards, namely from elementary school to high school. To realize development in the education sector, it is necessary to build educational facilities along with students such as teachers who have superior qualities. Apart from formal schools, non-formal schools are also needed in Papua, such as nature schools which study the cultures in Papua while preserving them.

The third plan relates to the economic sector. The local economic potential in Papua is quite abundant. Starting from utilizing natural and cultural resources in Papua. Not to mention when talking about natural tourism. The creativity and innovation of the Papuan people need to be trained to take advantage of the potential opportunities that exist. All of this of course results in the economic progress of the Papuan people themselves. The Regional Government of Papua Province needs to provide facilities in the form of training and investment for the community so they can manage what they own independently.

Three plans to accelerate development in Papua Province need to be implemented as soon as possible. Be it from the first plan in the health sector, the second plan in the education sector, and the third plan in the economic sector. All of this will have continuity in the future in realizing development in Papua as envisioned in the implementation of Special Autonomy for Papua.
