Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Constructs 700 Houses in Southwest Papua Province

PAPUA BARAT DAYA – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) distributed the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program or house renovation as many as 700 units in Southwest Papua Province. This is to improve the quality of houses for Low-Income Communities. “We are distributing the BSPS Program or house renovation to help low-income people in Southwest Papua Province. We want the housing program implemented by the Ministry of PUPR to benefit all Indonesian people, including in Southwest Papua,” said Director General of Housing of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Iwan Suprijanto.

Iwan explained that the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program is a stimulant channeled by the Government to encourage the enthusiasm of the community, especially Low-Income Communities to build and improve the quality of their homes and thus, the houses of Low-Income Communities that were previously uninhabitable become more livable and meet the requirements of healthy homes.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through the Papua II Housing Provision Implementation Center of the Directorate General of Housing deployed Field Facilitators of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program to assist during the construction process and this is to facilitate the community in carrying out construction and as for the stimulant funds provided can be used by the community to buy building materials and pay artisan wages. “We also form community groups and assign Self-Help Housing Stimulant Program Field Facilitators for implementation in the field. We want to encourage the spirit of community cooperation in the development of this Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program,” said Papua Housing Provision II Directorate General of Housing.

Ridwan Dibya Sudartha, Head of the Papua II Housing Provision Implementation Center of the Directorate General of Housing of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, explained that the number of houses that will receive the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program in Southwest Papua Province is 700 units spread in two locations, namely:

  1. Sorong City 679 units,
  2. Sorong Regency 21 units.

The distribution of assistance is divided into two stages based on the Decree of the Director General of Housing, for the first stage, the program will be carried out for 386 housing units, then the second stage is 314 housing units.

Based on available data, the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program in Sorong City is implemented in a number of districts, namely:

  1. West Sorong District 296 units,
  2. Malaimsimsa District 8 units,
  3. Maladum Mes District 97 units,
  4. Sorong District 10 units,
  5. Sorong Islands District 137 units,
  6. Sorong Kota District 29 units,
  7. Sorong Manoi District 101 units,
  8. East Sorong District 1 unit.

The program in Sorong District was implemented in two locations, namely:

  1. Mayamuk District 13 units,
  2. Mariat District 8 units.

“The value of assistance per housing unit in the City or Regency is Rp 23.5 million and for mountainous or coastal areas per housing unit is Rp 40 million,” Ridwan said.
