Former Vice President Ma’ruf Amin pushes for responsible development in Papua

Papua – Former Vice President Ma’ruf Amin encouraged strengthening the planning aspects of Papua’s welfare development in a sustainable manner with transparency and responsibility. This was conveyed by the former Vice President at a Briefing related to Development and Special Autonomy for Papua at the Vice Presidential Palace, Friday (18/10/2024).

Responsibility, said the former Vice President, ensures that the program must have a real impact. As well as, providing comprehensive, effective, and accountable solutions.

The former Vice President advised that welfare development in Papua be followed by an increase in public trust in the government through cultural and religious approaches. He considered, through this approach method, communication between the local community and related parties could be well established through peaceful discussions.

“Embrace traditional leaders, religions, youth, and Papuan mothers, this should not be forgotten. Namely, in development efforts to improve welfare and realize a peaceful Papua,” he said.

Then, the former Vice President also hoped for an accelerated follow-up to the formation of the New Autonomous Region. According to him, this needs to be followed by the completion of the agenda that is still pending, such as the construction of government infrastructure.

“Furthermore, human resource management, and regional financial management. For the smooth implementation of regional government and the provision of public services,” said the former Vice President.

Closing his direction, the former Vice President gave his appreciation to all stakeholders in Papua. He also reiterated that Papua’s development is not an instant thing and requires continuous action.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Papua Steering Committee Member, Pastor Albert Yoku, felt that the benefits of development in Papua are currently being felt by the community, especially indigenous Papuans. He is optimistic that if this development is carried out in a sustainable manner, then Papua’s progress will be the same as progress in other provinces.

“We believe that an Indonesia-centric development policy will be realized, and Papua will enjoy development like other provinces. Including of course the four new autonomous regions, namely Southwest Papua, Central Papua, South Papua and Papua Mountains,” Albert said on the same occasion.
