Financial Management and Development of the New Autonomous Region of Southwest Papua Province Escorted by the Southwest Papua Financial and Development Supervisory Agency

SORONG, PAPUA BARAT DAYA – In order to accelerate the development of Papua, the government agreed to form New Autonomous Regions, one of which is in Southwest Papua Province. The establishment of the Province is an effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of governance in accordance with the principles of good governance and improve the quality of public services by shortening the span of control.

To oversee the achievement of these goals, the Representative of the West Papua Provincial Financial and Development Supervisory Agency is committed to overseeing the financial accountability and development of the New Autonomous Region of Southwest Papua Province, this was conveyed by the Head of the Representative of the West Papua Provincial Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, Lepot Setyanto to the Acting Governor of Southwest Papua Muhammad Musa’ad during a working visit to Sorong City, “We, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, are ready to assist, cooperate and support the implementation of the New Autonomous Region of Southwest Papua Province, especially in improving governance to be better and cleaner,” said Lepot.

Based on the results of the supervision of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, the main agenda for the implementation of the New Autonomous Region which entered the second year since 2022 is still unresolved. The fulfillment of the personnel needs of the State Civil Apparatus in the New Autonomous Region of Southwest Papua Province has not been optimal and the development of the core Government area (office infrastructure) has not been implemented, “This has an impact on the not optimal quality of public services in the Government of Southwest Papua Province,” said Lepot.

In addition, delays in the distribution of Special Autonomy Funds are also an obstacle in the implementation of programs and activities, the planning of programs or activities has the potential to be ineffective due to the determination of inappropriate achievement indicators, this results in programs or activities carried out by local governments that cannot be measured for success, “These problems have an impact on the realization of the government budget in Southwest Papua Province which is low, only reaching 14.29% by the end of June 2024,” continued Lepot.

In building financial accountability in Southwest Papua Province, Lepot gave advice to the Acting Governor of Southwest Papua to improve regional budgeting planning, optimize the effectiveness of the use of Special Autonomy Funds and improve Regional or Village financial accountability.

On this occasion, the Representative of the West Papua Provincial Financial and Development Supervisory Agency also submitted the Semester I Supervision Report for 2024 to the Acting Governor of Southwest Papua, Muhammad Musa’ad.

Musa’ad appreciates the performance of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency which has helped his party in order to oversee financial and development accountability, “Thank you to the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, we are also happy with the results of this supervision, of course we will make suggestions from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency as material for improvement. Of course, this New Autonomous Region still has a lot to be addressed,” said Musa’ad.
