Construction of Logistics Warehouses and Food Barns in Central Papua Province

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy inaugurated the construction of a logistics warehouse that also serves as a food barn in Central Papua Province. The construction of the storage space is an initiative of the central government implemented by the National Disaster Management Agency. The reason why the logistics warehouse was built was to provide a place that can be used as a food barn that stores staple food reserves for all people in Central Papua Province. Unpredictable climate and weather can create detrimental conditions for all parties, so there needs to be a staple food reserve that can guarantee the availability of all needs as preparation when something undesirable happens.

Central Papua Province, which is dominated by landscapes in the form of plantations and agriculture and the work of the community as farmers, of course, is very dependent on natural conditions. Climate and weather can indeed be predicted and have their own timelines, but sometimes there are certain special conditions that require farmers to quickly prepare strategies so that the harvest remains optimal and even has staple food reserves. The welfare of the community based on the guaranteed availability of agricultural products is a shared responsibility that must be fulfilled by farmers and also policy makers such as the government, both at the central and regional levels, who see the existing situation and conditions and strive to realize the best.

The construction process of a logistics warehouse and food barn in Central Papua Province is expected to be completed as soon as possible. Farmers who have started to enter the farming period also need to re-strategize in the process. The existence of a logistics warehouse increases the sense of security for the community because it can be used to store agricultural products such as tubers and also rice or sago. Farmers need to be able to provide sufficient harvests for consumption, sale, and also to be stored in a logistics warehouse that is built to prepare for extreme weather that affects agricultural products in the coming harvest season. The availability of food leads to a guarantee of community welfare that can be felt by the people in Central Papua Province.

The construction of a logistics warehouse and also a food barn is one of the tactical steps that are useful in encouraging community welfare. The guarantee of the availability of staple food stocks can be felt by the community because agricultural products can be stored in the logistics warehouse and can be distributed to the entire community when needed. The various facilities in the logistics warehouse are expected to help overcome all problems in the field of storing staple foods. Another hope is that there will be no problems with climate and extreme weather so that the logistics warehouse can be used to store crops that can make farmers develop strategies to control selling prices which also lead to community welfare.
