Clean up Doom Island with the P2KP Office of Southwest Papua

PAPUA BARAT DAYA – In order to commemorate the 2024 Sea Love Month, the entire role of the government, namely the Agriculture, Food, Marine and Fisheries Service (P2KP) of Southwest Papua Province held a beach and sea cleanup action, on Doom Island. Sorong Islands District, Sorong City, Southwest Papua.

The P2KP PBD Office also provided flags that were distributed to motorists and pedicab drivers. The activity involved many State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the Southwest Papua Provincial Government including the Southwest Papua Provincial Communication and Information Office, the PBD Environment, Forestry and Family Planning Office, the PBD Rbangpol Agency, the PBD Labor Transmigration and ESDM Office and the General Bureau of the Regional Secretary of Southwest Papua Province.

The activity was also attended by the Head of the Communication and Information Service of Southwest Papua Province, Irma Soeleman, Head of the Environment, Forestry and Land of Southwest Papua Province, Julian Kelly Kambu, Head of the Health, Population Control and Family Planning Office of PBD, Naomi Netty Howay, Head of the Kesbangpol Agency of PBD, Sellvyana Sangkek, Head of the Transmigration, Labor and ESDM Office of PBD, Suroso.

Absalom Solossa, Head of the National Agency of Agriculture, Food, Marine and Fisheries of Southwest Papua Province, said that the sea is the future of the nation, especially the province of Southwest Papua. “It is time for us to protect and maintain the sea because if the beaches and the sea are clean, then the fish in the sea must be healthy.” He explained.

This action is an initiative step in an effort to educate public awareness and campaign for the importance of keeping the sea clean so that the marine ecosystem becomes healthy.

The Southwest Papua Provincial Government is very serious in its efforts to deal with marine debris. The purpose of the Love the Sea Month action is to increase public understanding in the prevention and control of coastal and marine debris.

Hoping that the implementation of beach and sea cleanup actions will become a driving force for all elements of society to continue to make efforts to manage waste into economic value that has a source of income in the area.

“The beach and sea cleanup action is a useful activity and motivates people to protect the sea which is a potential and economy in the future,” he concluded.

“The sea is part of the future that must be preserved, we hope this movement can increase the awareness of coastal communities towards the preservation of marine ecosystems,” he continued.

Then, representing the Pj Governor of Southwest Papua in this case the Expert Staff of the Governor of Southwest Papua George Yarangga appreciated the Head of the Agriculture, Food, Marine and Fisheries Service of Southwest Papua Province and its staff who had carried out beach and sea cleanup actions in commemoration of the 2024 Love the Sea Month.
